Internationa Technology and Aerospace Park
The International Technology and Aerospace Park, is a planned business park near Myrtle Beach International Airport, which will target aeronautics and technology related companies.
The infrastucture is largely completed on the 460 acre property, of which 80 percent can be developed. Having the land ready is important in today's economic climate. The Myrtle Beach Regional Development Corporation which is responsible for marketing the property expects businesses will want to locate and start up quickly to the state because of aviation companies like Boeing already locating to the state.
About half of the park, which has direct access to a 10,000 foot runway, is intended for aviation-related businesses like maintenance, repair operations companies, repair operations companies or aviation part manufacturers that need the direct access.
The park is ready for companies to start construction on individual buildings. Once the project is fully developed which will take time, it could generate as many as 2,500 jobs.
One of the key factors for attracting aeronautical companies to the park is having a strong employee base. The new partnership between the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and Horry-Georgetown Technical College is crucial in supplying trained workers for companies considering a move to the area. The campus director, Peg Jackson, said schools cannot produce enough aviation mechanics to replace the nations retiring workers.
Officials are already in talks with businesses that could bring jobs to the site and the Low-Country.
